The two S4 IGCSE Environmental Management classes participated in a fieldtrip activity on separate days during week 6. The students visited two of PUC facilities namely the Water Treatment Plant at Le Niol and the Sewage Treatment Plant at Beau Belle.
The purpose of the fieldtrip was to allow students to gain practical knowledge about the processes involved in the treatment of fresh water for potable use and the treatment of sewage for effluent discharge before re-entering the environment. Both of these processes are part of the theory they have been learning about in the topic Water and its Management within the E.M syllabus. The field trip served to complement and reinforce on knowledge gained in class.
The students were hosted by Mr. Perry Denousse and Mr. Terry Azemia at the Le Niol Water treatment Plant and by Mr. Luc Valentin at the Sewage treatment plant at Beau Belle. The staff of PUC provided a very detailed explanation of the processes involved at the two facilities. They also took the opportunity to brief the students about job opportunities and career prospects that exist in both fields.
The students described the experience as very enriching as it was relevant to their topic of study.
The students and teachers would like to thank the PUC staff for warmly hosting them for the visit and hope they will get the chance to visit other facilities in the future.
