Dear All
Welcome to our School Website. I hope that you will find it informative and it gives you an insight into our values and practices.
Independent School Limited (ISL) Seychelles is a highly successful K1–A2 school which over the years, has established itself a leading school and centre of excellence for education in the Seychelles, an accomplishment wholly due to the dedication of our students and outstanding efforts of all the staff. We pride ourselves in the provision of quality teaching and learning as well as the provision of an environment which enables students to develop their full potential.
It is a place with warm, friendly and dedicated staff working collaboratively with students and parents to continue the success the School has worked so hard to achieve over the years. Through this collaboration, I believe that our students will continue to thrive as we navigate our way through this ever-changing and challenging world.
ISL is a school where the desire to learn is infectious and students of all abilities flourish. Everyone works hard to create a learning environment where all are welcome and diversity is celebrated. We are a school where staff and students have a strong sense of purpose, teachers constantly strive to provide inspirational learning and extra-curricular initiatives in which students are equipped with essential life skills. We work hard to ensure that the atmosphere in ISL remains very special. Quite simply at ISL, we believe that everyone has talent and we strive to equip all children in our care to become positive citizens and develop a culture where achievements and excellence are celebrated.
Consequently, academic standards at the School are very high and usually amongst the best in the country thanks to highly motivated staff, students who wish to learn and parents who support them. Last year, our students have been commended for their outstanding performance in external examinations, winning an array of Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards, which are awarded to worldwide top performers in Cambridge IGCSE and A Level. At ‘A’ level 97.4 pass rate was recorded with 70% at C or higher. At IGCSE, 82% of grades were ‘C’ or better.
ISL is a trusted and respected member of the local community and works exceptionally hard to provide the very best start for our young people. We firmly believe that our school is a unique place, creating a safe spacious environment for all students and staff, where courtesy and kindness prevail and where diverse customs and cultures are embraced thereby providing the foundation for students to develop their potential and ensure that they are ready to take their place in society as well-rounded, informed individuals in line with our motto of ‘apprendre pour grandir’.
The School is also very lucky to have a committed PTA who are committed to working together towards the success of all the students and they continue to plan and organise fun activities and events each year to support the School.
This year, the School will celebrate 30 years since its inauguration, .Over its existence, there have been many achievements that we are all very proud of. The School has continued to build its reputation as an outstanding academic institution, achieving excellent results in Cambridge International Examinations every year. Our students have won many best awards for their performance in those exams, often at ‘World Best’ level. We have also continued to expand our Cambridge Curriculum making us a fully Cambridge School from Kindergarten to A Levels. From Jan 2025, we will offer the new Cambridge Early Year Programme.
In line with our mission of developing every child’s potential to the full, our students have over the years showcased their many talents in drama and other activities including music, sports and dance.
Through its history, ISL has never been interested in staying the course, maintaining the status quo, or even worse withering. To the contrary, it continues to ‘march on’ and because of this I think a theme fitting for the 30th anniversary year should be: ‘Marching on’. Because we are marching on as we continue with our expansion programme. Our new swimming pool is operational and later this year our new multi purpose hall will be ready. We march on as we continue to innovate and adopt new emerging technologies in our practice to improve the capabilities of our staff and ensure all our students get the best quality teaching and learning and attain their future goals.
I hope that everyone involved with the School over the years, however great or small, will enjoy our celebrations this year and that we will continue for the next thirty years to march on.
Thank you
Andy Esparon
