On Friday 14th April 2023, five P6 students; all members of the Wildlife Club went on a one day visit to our world renowned UNESCO world heritage site Vallée de Mai accompanied by their teacher Miss Petrina. The aim of the visit was for the students to gain first hand experience of the natural forest and its different species, as most of these students had never been to Vallée de Mai before and to gather information about the site which is then going to be used to prepare for the Public Speaking Competition that has been launched for the 40th anniversary of Vallée de Mai as a UNESCO world heritage site.
We boarded Cat Coco at 8:00 am and after an hour at sea we got to Praslin where a taxi was waiting for us to take us to Vallée de Mai. There we went on a two hours tour of the forest where the students were able to sight some of the different species such as the famous Coco de Mer, Giant Bronze Gecko, Coco de Mer snail just to name a few. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the black parrot although we could hear its whistling call among the leaves. We then break for lunch where the students enjoyed a nice meal by the pool at the Acajou Hotel. After lunch we headed back to Vallée de Mai where Maria, a worker, was waiting for us to give us a very informative presentation about Vallée de Mai.
We boarded the 2:00pm boat back to Mahé, having accomplished the objectives of our visit. It was a wonderful experience.
